Remember Movember

October was breast cancer awareness month and we saw lots of charity events organised by some lovely women in pink. Since 2003, November has been hijacked by Men all over the world. The idea is to not shave for the whole month and see how much fluff you can grow. Yes, it's already the 6th but it's not too late to sign up and take part in the Movember challenge! A fun and hairy way of promoting and raising money for Men's Health.

Nice to see some old classics there but my personal favourites are the 'French Fork' and the 'Van Dyke' simply for reminding me of Mary Poppins.

If I don't see some Super Mario tashes I will be hugely disappointed.



We have a few residents living in our till counter...

A Dinosaur (whose species has sparked many a debate amongst customers), a Snake and a Legoman complete with Lego Jeep. A long time ago they were once beloved possesions of various children and like Lotso the bear from Toy Story 3 were left behind. Sob.

 Unfortunately, 3 years of being kept under bright lights, sharing a confined space and hearing Snakes' rather tedious stories one too many times has taken its toll on Dino and Legoman...

Snake cowardly watched from the sidelines. Typical.

September Festival

Today the St Ives September Festival kicks off. Every year we have a 2 week celebration of music and the arts. We like a bit of culture every now and again.

I took a stroll to see what was going down and came across some Morris Dancers...

Also, Mark swears he saw and heard Fisherman's Friends earlier....

I don't believe him.

Up until the 25th there will be lots of music, poetry, exhibitions and even more dancing and merriment, so come on down! While you're here you should pop in and check out our new Autumn/Winter Range. "Love..a bird just flew into that shop"

Yesterday, our usual morning routine was disturbed when one of these little fellas flew into the shop and nestled into a display of dry bags....

Cian discovered his calling in life as a bird tamer and (after explaining that even though the Gul logo is a bird we don't currently accept bird currency) set him free in the nearby public gardens. He was very polite and didn't leave us any presents to clean up. We liked him so much we named him Albert (Bertie for short). I think he liked his time with us too as several hours later a suspiciously familiar looking Sparrow flew into a row of mens shirts..

Newbies

With the summer season in full swing and starting our late night opening ours, we decided it was about time we had some fresh faces in store.

After learning the essentials (how to make the perfect brew etc) we managed to convince one of our newbies to try on the new Vortex Wetsuit and I have photographic evidence...

School is out for summer. This means no more early mornings, no more trying to make costumes out of your curtains at 11pm because your precious child forgot to tell you about that play tomorrow. Ahhh more sleep...

well for 6 weeks anyway.
